Report: Global Wind Power Capacity to Grow by 50% Over the Next Five Years
On April 25, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) released a report stating that, driven by falling costs and a market recovery expected to begin toward the end of this decade, global wind power capacity is projected to increase by more than 50% over the next five years. In its annual report on the current state of the global wind industry, GWEC noted that as of the end of last year, total global wind power capacity stood at 539 gigawatts, up 11% from the previous year. The organization further stated that, as countries worldwide ramp up renewable energy development to meet emissions-reduction targets and wind energy costs continue to decline, global wind capacity is forecast to grow by 56% by the end of 2022, reaching 840 gigawatts.
