Wind Power Grid-Connection and Operation in the First Quarter of 2018
According to industry statistics cited by China Electric Power News, from January to March 2018, the nation added 3.94 million kilowatts of grid-connected wind power capacity. By the end of March 2018, the country’s cumulative grid-connected wind power capacity reached 168 million kilowatts. During the same period, national wind power generation totaled 97.9 billion kilowatt-hours, up 39% year on year; the average national wind power utilization hours were 592, an increase of 124 hours compared with the same period last year; wind power curtailment amounted to 9.1 billion kilowatt-hours, a decrease of 4.4 billion kilowatt-hours year on year; and the average national wind power curtailment rate was 8.5%, down 8 percentage points from the previous year—marking a simultaneous decline in both the volume and rate of wind power curtailment nationwide.
In January–March, the provinces with the largest additions of grid-connected wind power capacity were Qinghai (750,000 kW), Henan (550,000 kW), Ningxia (350,000 kW), and Jiangxi (310,000 kW). The provinces with the highest average annual wind power utilization hours were Yunnan (904 hours), Fujian (809 hours), and Sichuan (765 hours).
