Cable Engineering The outlook for this industry is very promising, as its applications deliver numerous benefits to enterprises, making it highly favored by clients. To help more people become familiar with it, understand its day-to-day use, and fully leverage its advantages for business, we will now share some key insights related to cable engineering, with the hope of providing greater assistance and maximizing the value it can bring.
Cable reels in cable engineering projects shall not be transported or stored in a horizontal position; during loading and unloading, neither the cables nor the cable reels shall be damaged, and it is strictly prohibited to push cable reels directly off the vehicle. The cable ends must be sealed with moisture-proof terminations. A pre-installation inspection must be carried out before the cables arrive and are laid. The inspection shall include: verification that all technical documentation for the product is complete; confirmation that the cable model, specifications, and length comply with the design and order requirements; ensuring that the cable joints are tightly sealed; and performing insulation resistance tests on cables rated at 1 kV or below, as well as withstand voltage and leakage current tests on 10 kV high-voltage cables.
In the cable installation project, the cable trenches were cleaned prior to cable laying, and the barrier measures have been essentially completed. Before cable laying, the length of each cable shall be calculated based on the design and the actual routing, and each cable shall be laid accordingly to minimize the number of splices. Prior to laying cables through the cable trenches, care must be taken to prevent uneven cable distribution and severe crossing. Sufficient spare length should be left near cable terminations and intermediate joints. Cable laying may be carried out either manually or by winch traction.
When laying cables, first mount the cable reel onto the payout stand and loosen the cable end from the top of the reel. During the laying process, the pulling force must be kept uniform. A person should adjust the payout pulley to prevent the cable from slipping off the pulley and becoming tangled. In cable projects involving long cable runs, an intermediate point may be chosen as the starting point, with cables laid from both ends; in such cases, accurate measurement of the cable length is essential. When cables are laid along a cable trench, they shall be installed in a single layer, arranged one by one, and secured individually. Vertically installed cables must be fixed at intervals of 1.5 to 2 meters, while horizontally installed cables shall be fixed at the cable’s ends and at bends at intervals of 5 to 10 meters. Cables within the cable trench must be clearly labeled at the head, tail, bends, and every 50 meters with their serial number, model, and start–end points. The labels shall be clear and complete, neatly hung, and free from omissions.
