I. Overview of Cable Accessories in Cable Engineering

1. Characteristics of Cable Accessories in Cable Engineering
Currently, in China’s cable construction projects, cable accessories predominantly utilize chemically synthesized materials as the insulating material for cable terminations. These materials typically employ rubber-based insulation techniques, which have been scientifically refined to further enhance the hydrophobic properties of the rubber. As a result, the self-healing capability of the material is significantly improved: when water droplets form on its surface, a release film automatically develops, effectively preventing material degradation over long-term service. Consequently, cable accessories used in cable engineering exhibit the following key characteristics: superior insulation performance, corrosion resistance, and waterproofing; moreover, certain materials also possess UV-resistant properties, thereby ensuring an exceptionally long service life.
2. Functions of Cable Accessories in Cable Engineering
In practice, the function of the cable vicinity is quite straightforward: it serves to connect and stabilize the system, enabling voltage to propagate from the high-voltage side toward the cable’s termination, thereby achieving a stable operating condition. At the same time, this arrangement induces certain changes in the axial and radial stresses at each terminal substation, thus ensuring the continuity of the cable.
Currently, in cable construction projects, cables are primarily composed of a conductor, an insulation layer, a protective layer, and a shielding layer. Cable accessories, through their connection and structural stability, further ensure the proper functioning of the cable. This facilitates excellent electrical contact between conductors and reliable insulation, thereby guaranteeing power supply reliability, safeguarding people’s quality of life, and fostering rapid socio-economic development.
During cable construction, the manufacturing processes for cable accessories and other electrical components exhibit certain unique characteristics. In addition to ensuring inherent stability, it is essential to maintain the insulation performance of cable accessories to prevent operational issues over the long term; moreover, waterproofing significantly extends the service life of the cables.
II. General Provisions
1. The fabrication of cable terminations and street fittings shall be carried out by trained, skilled workers.
2. Cable terminations and their joints shall be manufactured in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s process specifications, and oil-filled cables shall comply with the relevant regulations for oil handling and vacuum processes.
3. At the intermediate joint of a three-core power cable, the cable armor and metallic shield shall be provided with reliable electrical connection and mutual insulation. At the cable termination, the cable armor and metallic shield shall each be led out via bottom-mounted terminals and shall be properly grounded.
4. Appropriate fire-fighting equipment shall be provided at indoor construction sites and oil-filled cable installation sites. During indoor or tunnel construction, corresponding temporary power supplies shall be provided.
5. In cable connections, the wide variety of cable terminations and connectors, coupled with the development of rubber-sheathed cables and their accessories, often leads to mutual interference among different joint configurations during installation, resulting in such adverse factors as improper connections and inadequate specification compliance.
