Precautions for Cable Engineering Construction

Cable installation is a highly demanding undertaking, characterized by complex procedures and stringent requirements. Numerous details must be carefully attended to during construction. A critical priority is to thoroughly review the design drawings in advance and gain a comprehensive understanding of the overall site conditions. In addition, sufficient test pits and trenches must be excavated, and a complete survey of the underground utility network must be conducted to identify all existing pipelines and other underground infrastructure. Only by adhering to these precautions can construction proceed smoothly and the cable be laid without damaging other underground utilities.
During cable construction, strict attention must be paid to compliance with regulations. Urban road construction is subject to stringent requirements: within the red-line boundaries, the use of large-scale machinery for trenching and excavation is prohibited. When encountering particularly hard pavement surfaces, only small-scale equipment may be used for such operations, and enhanced on-site supervision is required throughout the construction process to ensure that equipment does not penetrate beyond the topsoil layer. If large construction equipment must be employed, prior application and approval procedures must be completed.
During cable construction, it is essential to develop and implement a comprehensive traffic management plan to prevent accidents. The construction area must be clearly delineated with conspicuous signage and barrier fences, and all markings must be highly visible. Particularly at night, warning lights should be installed around the site to prohibit unauthorized entry by pedestrians or vehicles. Cable installation invariably requires trenching; when trench depths exceed 1.5 meters, appropriate safety measures must be adopted to prevent soil collapse. After trenching is completed, excavated soil should be segregated and stored separately, while maintaining unobstructed passageways for construction personnel to move safely.
During construction, cable protection boards are frequently encountered and excavated. In such cases, operations must not be conducted arbitrarily; work must be carried out under the guidance of qualified personnel to prevent accidental damage to the cables. If a cable joint box is exposed during excavation, heightened vigilance is required. Should further excavation be necessary, appropriate suspension and protective measures must be implemented, and iron or steel wire must never be used to suspend the joint box, as these materials can damage the cable’s protective sheath.
During cable-cutting operations, it is common to encounter existing cables that obstruct the work. In such cases, it is essential to use specialized testing equipment to verify that the cable is de-energized before proceeding with the cut. Furthermore, operators must take appropriate personal protective measures during the cutting process, including wearing insulated gloves on both hands.
During cable construction, when tunnel sections are encountered, it is imperative to ensure adequate lighting within the tunnel and to implement comprehensive safety measures, including waterproofing, fire protection, and ventilation. When working inside cable pits, multiple pit covers must be opened to vent out stagnant, contaminated air; only after the pit has been thoroughly ventilated may personnel enter to carry out construction.
