Cable Engineering: What Types of Cable Projects Are Included?
2021-09-07
Cable engineering is a relatively complex undertaking that is divided into several distinct phases during construction. Site transportation is the first phase of cable engineering; it involves transporting the materials required for construction from the warehouse to the job site, followed by loading, unloading, and handling. This phase has a relatively low technical content and primarily requires material-handling trucks and dedicated drivers. In addition, during transportation, the materials must be counted and properly loaded and unloaded.
Local engineering projects also constitute an important component of cable construction. These projects encompass a variety of tasks, including site preparation, pavement excavation, tunnel boring, and trenching and related construction. They place specific demands on the technical skills of construction personnel and invariably involve the use of large-scale heavy equipment to excavate hard pavement surfaces. During such operations, it is imperative to prioritize site safety, provide specialized safety training for workers, and ensure that qualified technical personnel are on-site to offer professional guidance.
The cable-laying works encompass the assembly phase of cable projects, primarily involving the fabrication of intermediate joints and the installation of cover plates, as well as conduit burial and the fabrication of traction heads for Xiao Zhan. These tasks are also integral to the overall laying process. When undertaking cable projects, most companies maintain their own specialized laying teams that rigorously inspect all assembled components; any defects identified are promptly rectified, thereby ensuring both project quality and adherence to the schedule.
A portion of cable engineering projects falls under the category of “two-end works,” which encompass the fabrication and installation of overhead and support cable trays, the fabrication of termination heads, as well as the installation of oil-pressure systems and signaling devices. Upon completion of these installations, comprehensive tests must be conducted to verify the electrical performance of all equipment. This constitutes a technically demanding phase of cable engineering that requires skilled construction personnel; moreover, the execution process necessitates the use of specialized equipment, and workers must implement robust safety precautions and adhere strictly to established operating procedures.
Upon completion of the cable installation works, termination works will still be carried out. These works primarily involve the fabrication of oil-filled cable paper-end terminations, as well as the installation of oil supply tanks, automatic drainage systems, and signaling devices. The timely and quality-assured completion of these termination works ensures that the cables can be put into normal service after the cable installation is finished, thereby guaranteeing their safe operation and preventing any safety issues during their service life.
The final stage of the cable project is the grounding work, which encompasses the installation of insulated joints, phase-transposition boxes, protective devices, and other grounding-related equipment. Upon completion of this phase, the entire cable project will be deemed finished and ready for acceptance by the relevant authorities. Once the project passes inspection, the cable installation will be officially commissioned, and the installed cables will commence operation.
